Burkholder performs with an all-woman group called "Heartstrings" that plays Celtic and Appalachian music, both vocal and instrumental. They have been together for twenty two years. The group collectively plays fiddle, guitar, banjo, mandolin, hammered dulcimer, folk harp, concertina, flute and recorder. They are available for hire for events and celebrations. Burkholder also plays solo on folk harp for events such as weddings.

Chamber Music in Yellow Springs presents at least five concerts a year by professional ensembles of three to seven musicians. The last concert of the season is a competition for emerging professional ensembles, in which the two finalists compete before a live audience and three judges. All concerts are performed at the First Presbyterian Church on Xenia Avenue at 7:30 pm with a pre-concert lecture at 6:45. Tickets are available by subscription or at the door. A post-concert dinner is available with the musicians, and catered by a local chef. Complete details available on the website.

The Yellow Springs Chamber Orchestra (a continuation of the Antioch Chamber Orchestra) rehearses Tuesday nights, 7:30 to 9:00 pm in the Sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church. The Orchestra plays pieces from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries and occasionally plays for large-scale choral works performed by the Community Chorus. Ability to read music is necessary. The Yellow Springs Community Band rehearses Monday evenings, 7:30 to 9:00 pm at the YS High School. The band performs a wide variety of repertoire for concert band, including contemporary works, medleys from recent films and Broadway shows, and traditional marches and concert pieces. The season comprises four indoor concerts, and three outdoor summer concerts. Some instruments might be available for borrowing. Music reading is necessary. The Community Chorus has performed both standard and lesser-known choral repertoire since 1973, including Bach’s St. John Passion, Cantata No. 140, Benjamin Britten's "Saint Nicolas", Faure’s "Requiem", Handel’s "Alexander’s Feast" and "Judas Maccabaeus", and a full concert production of Gluck’s opera "Orfeo ed Euridice". No audition necessary. Ability to read music is helpful, but not absolutely required. Please contact James Johnston, Music Director via email.
