Call for Artists

“Planetary Climate Emergency”

Due to human-generated greenhouse gases in our planet’s atmosphere, we are in the midst of a planetary climate emergency, facing an extinction level crisis! We need to reestablish a harmonious balance between all people, all species, our planet and prosperity. We are at a “Tipping Point” and will need every tool in our collective toolbox to find that balance.

The Yellow Springs Art Council and the Citizens Climate Lobby are issuing a call for artists who are motivated by these facts. Art has a great capacity to expand awareness, engage emotions, and help educate people about the need for action. From August 19 – September 11, 2022, we will display work by local artists to do just that, at the Yellow Springs Arts Council Community Gallery, 111 Corry Street. Three cash prizes will be awarded at the Opening Reception on Friday, August 19: Best Use of Humor, Most Eco-Friendly and Best in Show.

Work in all media – including spoken word, dance and music – is encouraged! Artists must be members of the Yellow Springs Arts Council in order to participate. Membership levels start as low as $20 for students and seniors. The first artwork submission is free, and additional pieces are $10. Visual art must be no larger than 24” square, unless express permission is given in advance. YSAC and CCL reserve the right to refuse work that is too political in nature; we aim to raise awareness without pointing fingers at specific people or organizations.

Not a member of YSAC? Need to renew your membership? You can sign up online at

Artists, please submit an Intent to Participate Form, so we know to expect work from you. Performing artists, this is especially important for you, so we can strategize how to display your work. This does not obligate you to submit work, if life has other plans for you and you’re unable to do so.

  • Today through August 10 – Intent to Participate Forms accepted
  • Sunday, August 14 from 4 – 7 PM – Drop off your work at the YSAC Community Gallery
  • Friday, August 19 from 6 – 9 PM – Opening Reception
  • Sunday, September 11 from 4 – 7 PM – Pick up your work at the YSAC Community Gallery
